Several weeks ago, I watched The Sixth Sense. I love that movie—the twists and turns, the surprise ending, and of course, that adorable little boy. What a fantastic actor! And who doesn’t like Bruce Willis? The little boy didn’t share much of his thoughts and feelings; he kept them hidden, along with his pain.
I loved the relationship between the son and his mom. He loved her deeply and was able to read her emotions. At one point, he asked her why she was so sad, and she replied, “What makes you think I’m sad?” Cole said, “Your eyes told me.” I think many of us wish someone cared enough to see past our facade and recognize the pain behind our smile, the mask we wear.
Well, there’s someone who does—God. He sees our pain, loneliness, confusion, guilt, fear, and utter devastation. And guess what? He loves us! I wish He showed up with a smile, a hug, or a word of encouragement. But maybe that’s what He’s asking of us—to be His hands and feet, offering smiles, hugs, and kind words to those we meet—you never know who needs it most.
