Share a Time You Helped Someone In Need
Over the years, I like to think I’ve been able to help someone along the way. When I think about helping others, my mind goes back to my days as an RN working in hospitals and clinics, where I met many people in need of a little comfort to ease both physical and emotional pain.
Being a nurse gave me the chance to offer that comfort. I remember all the hands I held, the hugs shared, the tears cried, and the prayers whispered with my patients. One young man in his twenties especially stands out in my memory. He was battling terminal cancer so severe that his bones would break without warning, pain constantly overwhelming him. At first, I dreaded every visit, but then I shifted my mindset. Instead of focusing on his suffering, I saw it as a ministry opportunity—to lift him up in prayer. I would come in early for my shifts just so I could spend a few quiet moments praying with him.
I don’t remember his name, it was so long ago, but I remember him clearly. Near the end of his life, when he became unresponsive, I bought him a teddy bear from the gift shop. I tucked it under his arm and prayed for peace and comfort. Not long after, he passed away.
I want to help others, and sometimes I think about how to do it more consistently. I guess the best way is simple: when we see a need, we respond. That’s how we keep a ministry of kindness alive every day.
God Bless You on Your Journey
