Stress Relief and Self Care-Baking and Stress Relief

Posted on March 6, 2026March 6, 2026

Let’s continue on with our series on stress relief and self-care. Today let’s take a look at Baking and Stress Relief…

You might wonder, how can baking actually help reduce stress? According to Teeo Creations, baking serves as both a comforting activity and a distraction from the stressors in our lives. By focusing on the process of baking, we can temporarily lower stress hormones and give our minds a much-needed break from anxiety and negative feelings. Here’s a quote from their site that sums it up…

“A study conducted by the University of Toronto found that baking is good for your mental health. The study found that participants who baked “felt less stressed, had more patience, and were more creative than those who didn’t bake.”

According to Step One Charity…

“Baking has been shown to be extremely beneficial for boosting mental health, with advantages such as enhanced mindfulness, satisfaction, and sensory pleasure. Bakers who suffer from depression or other mood disorders turn to baking as a form of therapy to relieve stress and anxiety because they it’s a way to re-focus on something other than what is troubling them.”

Step One Charity highlights that baking is meditative, engages our senses, sparks creativity, gives us a sense of control, and boosts self-confidence. All these benefits work together to help reduce stress and, in many cases, bring genuine joy.

Now it’s time to put this theory to the test: that baking can really help with stress relief. I’m heading over to Pinterest to find a couple of recipes that caught my eye. First up, I’ll be making a Sour Cream Coffee Cake from The Chunky Chef, and then I’ll try out some Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies from Harbor Breeze Home. Can’t wait to get baking!

One of the great things about baking is that it’s not just a personal stress relief—it’s also a wonderful way to share love and joy with others through the treats you create. It’s a win-win for everyone involved. I’m excited to share the delicious results of my baking adventure with friends and family.

Do you find baking a form of stress relief?  What is your favorite thing to bake?

Wishing you a calm and relaxing day!
