Feeling Stressed? Find Calm in the Flowers

Posted on November 18, 2025November 18, 2025

I’ve always loved flowers and often find myself wandering through garden centers and parks, camera in hand, capturing their beauty. Being surrounded by vibrant blooms and lush greenery is incredibly calming and offers me a peaceful escape from life’s stresses. There’s something truly restorative about immersing yourself in a flower garden that helps ease the mind and soothe the soul.

Flowers have a unique way of lifting our spirits and adding beauty to any space. Whether you place fresh blooms in a vibrant vase on your kitchen table, create a cozy nook with potted plants near a sunny window, or join a flower-arranging class to spark your creativity, there are countless ways to let flowers brighten your home and mood. Even a simple walk through a local garden or farmers’ market can reconnect us with nature’s colors and fragrances, reminding us to pause, breathe, and appreciate the little joys around us.

I found this quote on Stress To Strength that says-

“A major study at Harvard University indicates that flowers are a natural stress reliever.”

Here is another statement about flowers and stress relief that I found on Ellison Chair.

Having flowers around the home and office greatly improves people’s moods and reduces the likelihood of stress-related depression. Flowers and ornamental plants increase positive energy levels and help people feel secure and relaxed.

A Few Places to Find Flowers to Brighten Our Day…

Visit Local Gardens:

One of my favorite spots for flower photography is Duke Gardens in Durham, NC. There’s something truly refreshing about walking through its beautifully landscaped grounds. For me, even a short stroll through the garden offers a peaceful break and a great way to relieve stress.

Garden Centers:

I love taking photos at local garden centers—it’s truly therapeutic to stroll among the rows of vibrant plants and blooming flowers.

A Country Garden:

My daughter grows beautiful flowers on her farm, which means I’m lucky to have more blooms in my life. And if you don’t have a friend or family member with a garden, don’t worry—local farms and garden centers are great places to get your flower fix and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Below are a few flowers from her garden last summer along with me and my two grandbabies:-)

Purchase Flowers For Your Home:

A few years back, I joined a flower subscription service where fresh, beautiful blooms arrived at my doorstep regularly. I loved arranging the flowers and soaking in their colors and scents. While there are several options out there, they can be a bit pricey, but for those who can afford it, the joy they bring is truly worth it. Here is an article I found on The Spruce titled The Best Flower Subscriptions

You can also pick up flowers from local florists or grocery stores. My daughter swears by Trader Joe’s for the best flower deals and beautiful bouquets.

This week, I went to Wegmans and purchased a beautiful bouquet. I enjoy arranging the flowers, and they bring me joy every time I look at them.

If you are feeling stressed today, go out and buy some flowers. They will brighten your day!
