Today, I want to share a quote by Ava DuVernay that really resonates: “I’m not going to continue knocking that old door that doesn’t open for me. I’m going to create my own door and walk through that.”
This hits home on so many levels. To find success and happiness, we can’t keep repeating the same mistakes or expect different results by knocking on doors that have already been closed—be it someone who hurt us or paths we know aren’t right for us. Instead, we must commit to forging a new, positive path. It takes courage and determination, but it’s absolutely doable.
If there’s something you want or need in life, it won’t usually just appear—you have to create it or find the door that’s meant for you. For me, music has always been a source of joy and healing. There was a time I felt lost without it, so I decided to take charge, audition for my church’s praise team, and put myself out there despite my doubts. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it—it opened a new, positive chapter in my life.
After going through an unexpected divorce, many doors that once opened easily have slammed shut. Now, I’m focused on creating or finding new doors to step through—doors to joy, purpose, and fulfillment. It’s not always a smooth path, but I’m determined to fight for the future I want.
I’m sure you’ve faced doors closing in your life too. My encouragement is this: don’t give up. Seek out those new doors—whether they lead to happiness, a fresh career, meaningful family time, or security. We hold many keys within ourselves; we just need the courage and effort to unlock those doors.
God Bless You on This Journey!
