I recently watched the movie The Highwaymen, a gripping story about two lawmen tracking down Bonnie and Clyde. One line really caught my attention—it mentioned “one turn on the trail.” To me, this powerful phrase means that a single decision or change in direction can completely alter the course of our lives.
The turns and decisions we make can be deliberate, spontaneous, or sometimes taken out of necessity. Sometimes, life forces a turn on us—like my own experience with an unwanted divorce. Other times, we consciously choose to change direction and take a new path. Every choice we make carries consequences—sometimes positive, sometimes challenging—and the impact ripples not only through our own lives but also affects those around us.
Sometimes life forces us to take a turn we never wanted, a sudden illness, job loss, the death of a loved one, or a divorce, to name a few examples. While we may not have control over these changes, we do have the power to accept them and learn to navigate this new, unexpected path. Through it all, it’s essential to stand firm in our faith, trusting that God walks with us every step of the way.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
Help us, Lord, to choose our paths with wisdom. When life forces a turn upon us, guide us in navigating that unplanned road. When we choose to take a turn of our own accord, give us discernment to select the path that aligns with Your purpose. Help us to remember Your plan in every decision and to consider how our choices might impact others—whether for better or worse. If we stumble and take a wrong “turn on the trail,” gently lead us back to the road that You have planned for us.
God Bless You On This Journey!
