Sometimes, life’s darkest moments make it hard to even imagine a way out. I wrote this poem during one of those times—a reminder that even when darkness feels all-encompassing, the light of God’s love can still shine through.
God’s Light Cuts Through Our Darkness
“Light can be seen even in the darkness.
The light from the stars on a very dark night.
The light from a lighthouse in the midnight hours.
The light from a candle in a darkened room.
The light from a fireplace on a cold winter evening.
And, the light of God’s love cutting through our darkness.”

I know many of us have faced moments when we felt trapped in complete darkness. The depth of that darkness can be so overwhelming that the idea of finding a light often doesn’t even cross our minds. It can feel like we’re surrounded by darkness with no way to escape.
There are countless forms this darkness can take—illness, loss, divorce, violence, injustice, poverty, and many more.
Darkness often comes in the form of betrayal, separation, or divorce. During those challenging times, it can be hard to see any light at all. Yet, leaning on faith and holding onto hope can provide the strength needed to keep moving forward.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:5
“Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light.”
Helen Keller
“Dear Lord, help me remain strong in my beliefs.
Help me to see your light even in the dark times.”
