Do You Believe In Karma?
First off, what is karma? I found this definition of karma in an online dictionary. Karma is “destiny or fate, following as effect from cause.” Another meaning in the Cambridge Dictionary is “a situation in which things happen to someone as a result of their previous actions, or the force that makes this happen.”Here is another quote…Hindus believe in karma, meaning they will answer for their actions – if not in this life, then in the next.
Here is how I feel about karma…
As a child, I believed in karma in some form. I understood that actions have consequences, and that wrongdoers should face negative outcomes while good people deserve only positive ones. But after over 60 years, I’ve realized that this simple view isn’t always how things play out, despite how much I wish it were true.
I believe that, in some ways, people receive positive and negative outcomes based on their actions. However, many endure karma that isn’t their fault. Disease and poverty devastate countless innocent individuals, and unsavory people often mistreat others who don’t deserve such mistreatment.
There are many situations in life where we yearn to see karma in action, especially in cases of child abuse, sexual abuse, or any cruel treatment inflicted on another person. In many divorces, I wish karma would step in, particularly when men act selfishly and harm the very children and spouses they vowed to love and protect. When infidelity leads to someone being abandoned, left destitute, confused, and traumatized, that’s precisely when I hope karma delivers justice. Does karma always play out? I don’t know, but it would be a powerful form of justice if it did.
I believe the best form of karma for those experiencing divorce or any painful chapter isn’t revenge, but instead living our best lives. For anyone who has faced a tough divorce, focusing on building a joyful new life is key. The journey may be challenging initially, but the effort is truly rewarding. I’ve found happiness and contentment in embracing my new normal.
Karma or justice doesn’t always unfold as we expect in this world. I believe the only true karma lies with God, who will judge us all in His own way, with perfect fairness. With that in mind, I choose to leave karma in God’s hands.
